Regeneration Art Exhibit

“This new exhibit will be on display in the Library's newly renovated Museum Gallery on the second floor starting Tuesday, June 1st, through Friday, September 3rd. The gallery is accessible during normal Library hours. “Regeneration” looks at a future focused on climate justice. The exhibition includes drawing, collage, mixed media, photography, painting and poetry. Participating artists are Stephanie J. Alvarado, Isabella Bannerman, Diane Brawarsky, Carlos Mateu, Gina Randazzo and Ed Young.”

From Textiles to Text Styles

“Stephanie Alvarado gestures to a fireplace in her studio. In place of an actual fire are several candles burning carefully and slowly as Alvarado worked. “This is an altar,” Alvarado said. “It reminds me to stay grounded. It reminds me that I’m part of a legacy, and that I must have humility.”

“Summer of Know” at the Guggenheim

As part of the Guggenheim Museum’s “Summer of Know” series, architect Jennifer Newsom and activist and community organizer Stephanie Alvarado discuss activating overlooked urban spaces. This conversation, moderated by Ashley Mendelsohn, Assistant Curator, Architecture and Digital Initiatives, took place on August 7, 2018.

“One Book, One Bronx”

The "One Book One Bronx" book club is creating a space for those in the New York City borough to gather and discuss issues affecting their community, from gentrification or #MeToo to criminal justice and racial inequality. The club meets weekly to discuss that month's title.

“Ms. Alvarado, a Bronx native with experience in community organizing for queer and immigrant rights in New York, is responsible for serving the needs of freelancers, including helping them negotiate with clients or hosting networking sessions. She is a freelancer herself, working as a photo archivist and performing original poetry.”
